I am drinking a Summit Winter Ale anticipating tomorrow, when we will no longer have President Bush, but President Obama! Here is to a greater America, in which we can accomplish greatness. Because I am celebrating the end of the Bush-era, I wanted to paint my toenails, so I searched for my blue nail polish. Instead of finding my blue nail polish, I found the social security card of a man who died in my old apartment….that’s what this post really is about..

So, in February of last year, I moved out of my place with Court because I needed space and time to think about where our relationship was headed, etc, etc..I am living with him again, in our tiny one bedroom and our adorable kitty. Anyway, I moved into another tiny one bedroom, which was oh-so-cute, but had a little bit of trauma unbeknown to me. Apparently the previous resident was bi-polar who had violent outbreaks and had recently gone off of the medication. Well, one night he broke into the upstairs apartment which then had three girls living in it–and hid naked until they came home. He attempted to rape one of them, and attacked her so badly she had to be hospitalized for her injuries. Fortunate for her, her room mate was able to call the police…well, long story short, the police ended up shooting and killing him. The girls moved out. I moved into his apartment, and found his social security card along with some ‘blood’ stained walls in the kitchen which are below where he was shot. I always felt a little off at the place, and then I found that out about halfway through my living there. That would really only happen to me.

The seitanic cheese steaks were amazing, but definitely not vegan. Although, I bet I could whip up a cheeze sauce using cashews, margarine, and nutritional yeast that would turn out well. I have thought about going vegan, but I am not sure if I really want to. Maybe once we move to a place with more options and better produce/local food.

School starts tomorrow and I am not really ready for it to begin.
I am taking:

Senior Project (a requirement for anth majors, its a year long culmination of your undergrad work posted about it in a previous post).
Contemporary Literature-
Environmental Sociology (taught by a professor who is really into resistance struggles in South America, so should be interesting and right up my alley)
Medieval Political Philosophy
Political Analysis taught by a professor I took last semester who was hilarious without intending to be, in a Ben Stein more liberal sort of way.

Biggest get in the mood killer: the movie Trade. Seriously. I almost feel traumatized having watched it.

Do people not have any etiquette at all anymore? I am in a local coffee shop, reading for class, and a young woman keeps getting texts on her cell phone. Her alert is ridiculously loud and annoying. Why not put it on vibrate? It goes off every 30 seconds, and it is apparent that everyone in here is either studying or reading...I turned my phone onto vibrate, is it that hard?

The hardest part about making apple pie is letting it rest for at least an hour.

How depressing is Oliver Twist? I've never read Dickens aside from "A Christmas Carol", and this is really somber. I am enjoying it so far, but for a topic that I've been assigned I have to find the connection between Dicken's relationship with his wife in the novel. I think I will enjoy this literature course, even if it is going to kick my non-Russian ass.

My other classes are going quite well, the assignments are interesting and challenging, and I think I will learn a lot.

this is disgusting . I sort of agree with the fact that the police might be preparing themselves for the RNC that is coming up in the near future. Everyone knows that I tend to side with cyclists, but my grievances with them are that they should obey traffic laws. Because, when I ride my bike I follow them. Be respectful, and someday maybe motorvehicles will be more accepting. There were some videos posted on you tube of police officers beating a woman for "resisting arrest" when she was clearly yielding to their powers. Also, there are 8 people who are being held without bail, and probably won't be charged until tuesday.

We're going to make fish tacos and drink margaritas. Sweet, sweet, cilantro! I made deliciously delectable chocolate cupcakes yesterday and brought some to various people. Whenever I bake we hardly ever eat all the rewards, so I give them away. They are wonderful though. Cupcakes are an obsession of mine, but I've never really gotten into making them until recently.

I am super sick. So sick that I called in to work for the second time in almost two years, the last time was on tuesday justbarely sick. My body aches, my throat kills, and I have an amazing amount of stuff in my lungs. I have a take home essay exam due tomorrow on Keats, that I haven't started yet because I've been sick and had to work. Court is going to get me orange juice and soup. I'm going to stay on the couch and finish watching Bee Season

tomorrow I get to pick up my car, and we're going to head to minneapolis to spend the day. This weekend is going to be spent working and on an essay exam on nature as an educator in William Wordsworth's poetry. Gross. But for now it's gin and tonice time with dinner!

Lola is turning out to be quite the lap kitty. She curls up in our laps during the evening, but plays while we sleep. I thought I had lost her the other day and was devastated. Court hunted her (literally) down in the alley. We've got to find a way to deter her from trying to get outside. She's going to get beat up by the big bitches that live in this neighborhood.

In my lab taught by a graduate assistant she made an unintentional reference that was offensive. she compared the nostrals of africans to those of a gorilla. would you be offended by this?

we got new cell phones through t-mobile. i think i might upgrade to a better phone with bluetooth. we can get a razr for 50 dollars? do any of you use a razr? let me know what you think. court's lcd monitor arrived, so now our little office area will be almost complete. it is amazing how little space the lcds take up versus the old school monitor we've always used.

I am thinking of getting this couch over the weekend. It is on sale for 550 dollars, but after the 20% coupon I have it will be 460 dollars including tax. It's comfortable, compact and nice looking.
